Viridian Seeks to Expand Pa. Electric License
Viridian Energy PA LLC filed an amendment to its Pennsylvania electric generation supplier license to add the territories of PECO and Duquesne Light to the license.  Viridian is seeking authority to serve all customer classes in these new territories.  Currently, Viridian is licensed to market electricity at PPL.


Santanna Natural Gas Receives Ohio Gas License
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio granted Santanna Natural Gas Corporation a natural gas supplier license to serve all customer classes in all service areas (Only in Matters, 9/6/10).


Atmos Energy Marketing Seeks Expanded Pa. Gas License
Atmos Energy Marketing LLC submitted amendments to its Pennsylvania natural gas supplier license to add the territories of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation, Equitable Gas Company, and UGI Utilities, Inc. to its license.  Currently, Atmos Energy Marketing is authorized to market at Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania.


FERC Raises Price Caps in WECC
Affirming its earlier notice of intent, FERC issued an order raising the energy price cap on spot market sales in areas of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) outside of the California ISO from $400/MWh to $750/MWh (soft cap), effective upon issuance of its order (EL10-56).  Furthermore, the order raises the price cap in the WECC outside of the CAISO to $1,000/MWh, effective April 1, 2011. FERC dismissed arguments from financial marketers that the current -$30/MWh energy bid floor in the CAISO market may not be low enough as outside the scope of the proceeding.


EFH to Take $4 Billion Impairment Charge on Lower Prices
Energy Future Holdings disclosed in an 8-K filed Friday that it expects to take a non-cash goodwill impairment charge of approximately $4 billion on its third quarter results to reflect the estimated effect of lower wholesale power prices on the value of EFH's competitive Texas business unit, which houses Luminant and TXU Energy, driven by the sustained decline in forward natural gas prices.


Boston Generating Asset Sale to Proceed
A U.S. bankruptcy court has approved Boston Generating LLC's proposed auction of its assets, under a process in which Constellation Energy is the stalking horse bidder, dismissing protests from several creditors.
