Email This Story
October 13, 2010

FirstEnergy Solutions has signed a contract to supply electricity to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field for a five-year term beginning April 2011, and is offering residential electric supply under what it
labeled as "Steelers Offers" to customers in three western Pennsylvania territories.

FirstEnergy Solutions will also become the team's official energy supplier, providing it with a platform to reach mass market customers in western Pennsylvania, where it is affiliated with distribution companies Penn Power and Penelec, and would become affiliated with West Penn Power (Allegheny Power) under a proposed merger.  FirstEnergy Solutions is also affiliated with Met-Ed in the eastern part of the state.

FirstEnergy Solutions has had various residential campaigns at Penn Power since rate caps have expired, and is currently offering a residential fixed price of 7.15 cents per kWh through May 2013, with a $75 early termination fee (Rate RS: no demand meter, and Rate RH).  At Penn Power, the residential space is also being contested by Dominion Retail, which had been offering a fixed price of 7.80 cents through May 2011 though the offer no longer appears online.

At Penelec, in what is a relatively new offering, FirstEnergy Solutions is marketing a residential price of 5.71 cents per kWh through December 2010, followed by a fixed price of 7.30 cents per kWh through December 2011.  It is currently the only residential offer at Penelec, and includes a $75 early termination fee.

FirstEnergy Solutions is also offering a residential product at Duquesne Light at a fixed price of 7.40 cents per kWh through May 2013 (all residential rate classes), with a $75 early termination fee.  Dominion Retail, Energy Plus Holdings LLC, and Direct Energy are also active in the Duquesne Light residential market.

FirstEnergy Solutions is offering the following small business (under 100,000 kWh annually) rates in those territories:
