Ambit Launches Product Aimed at Small Commercial Customers in ERCOT
Ambit Energy said that it recently expanded its service offerings in Texas to include small business customers.  Ambit had previously focused its marketing on residential customers in order to streamline backoffice operations, though some commercial load had been served previously as it has inbounded from Ambit's independent sales consultants.  Ambit has not previously featured a formal product offering geared specifically toward small business owners, however.  Ambit said that "several thousand" customers switched to Ambit in the first weeks after the new small commercial product was offered.  The new offer for Texas small commercial customers is for businesses with electricity usage of 50,000 kWh per month or less, with enrollment conducted online.


ICC Withdraws Proposed Electric Consumer Protection Rules due to JCAR Timeline
The Illinois Commerce Commission approved an interim order withdrawing proposed electric consumer protection rules (83 Ill. Adm. Code 412 and 83 Ill. Adm. 453) because consideration of the proposal at the ICC will run past the one-year deadline to submit the rules to the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules in December (10/21).  The ICC docket (09-0592) will remain open, and the ALJ suggested that the post-exceptions order be presented as the First Notice Order at a future bench date.


Taylor Consulting & Contracting to Officially Launch Philly Buying Power
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will officially launch and endorse today Philly Buying Power, an aggregation pool for small and mid-sized business customers to be run by Taylor Consulting & Contracting, which was selected via RFP.  


BlueStar Energy Solutions Lowers Residential PECO Pricing
BlueStar Energy Solutions has lowered its pricing to PECO residential customers to match the recent change in pricing at Champion Energy Services, with BlueStar now offering its 12-month fixed product at 9.28¢/kWh (versus its original offer of 9.29¢).  The product includes an early termination fee of $10 per month remaining on the contract.


Md. PSC Sets Hearing on Impact of PJM Proposals on AMI Business Cases
The Maryland PSC scheduled a hearing for October 29 to obtain information from Baltimore Gas and Electric, Pepco, and Delmarva Power & Light regarding the impact of various demand response proposals being considered by PJM on the companies' advanced metering infrastructure business cases and on the companies' approved demand response programs contained in their EmPower Maryland Programs.


Mich. PSC Approves Consumers Energy Choice Incentive Mechanism Reconciliation
The Michigan PSC approved a reconciliation of Consumers Energy's Electric Choice Incentive Mechanism for the period June 20, 2008 through December 31, 2008, and the period from January 1, 2009 through November 30, 2009.  The reconciliation requires Consumers to implement a negative surcharge (refund) of $0.001070 per kWh for one month for the secondary class, and to implement a surcharge of $0.000544 per kWh for a 12-month period for the primary class.


FERC Approves PPL Acquisition of E.ON U.S.
FERC approved PPL Corporation's acquisition of E.ON U.S. LLC, the parent company of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company.  FERC's order was the final regulatory approval needed, and PPL expects to close the transaction November 1.
