Verde Energy USA announced that it recently enrolled its 100,000th customer for retail electric service.

Verde Energy is currently active in the Connecticut, New Jersey (all areas except Rockland Electric), and Pennsylvania (PPL and PECO only) electric markets.  Tony Menchaca, Verde's Chief Marketing Officer, reported that enrollments are about 40,000 customers in New Jersey, 35,000 in Connecticut, and 25,000 in Pennsylvania.

Menchaca also reported that Verde will expand to natural gas service, with offerings in New Jersey, in the second quarter.  Menchaca said that Verde is monitoring developments in Illinois and Maryland, but has no immediate expansion plans for those markets.

Verde Energy, which focuses on the mass market, exclusively offers variable rate products to residential customers, and offers variable and fixed products to commercial customers.  Verde Energy offers a $50 cash-back, mail-in rebate for new enrollments.

Verde Energy enrolled its first customer in November 2009.  The 100,000th enrolled customer, located in Upper Chichester, Pa, (PECO service area) will receive a free year's worth of electricity from Verde.
