Email This Story
February 22, 2011

Reliant Energy lost 9,000 net mass market customers during the quarter ended December 31, 2010 versus its total as of September 30, 2010, a significant improvement from the two most recent quarters, parent NRG Energy said in reporting earnings this morning.

Reliant's mass market customer count as of December 31, 2010 was 1.459 million, versus 1.468 million as of September 30, 2010 and 1.531 million as of December 31, 2009.

The net loss of 9,000 mass market customers during the fourth quarter of 2010 cut in half the net mass market attrition recorded during the third quarter (20,000), and is less than a third of the mass market customers lost during the second quarter (32,000).

Reliant's Commercial & Industrial customer count was 62,000 as of December 31, 2010, flat versus September 30, 2010, (stopping the attrition experienced in the two most recent quarters), but down from 66,000 as of December 31, 2009.

Total customers for Reliant as of December 31, 2010 were 1.521 million, versus 1.530 million as of September 30, 2010 and 1.597 million a year ago.

NRG has not yet filed a 10-K. More on NRG and its subsidiaries' earnings tomorrow.
