Viridian Energy is planning to launch electric service to residential customers at Commonwealth Edison in August, the supplier told Matters.

Viridian's application to serve customers at ComEd was first reported in Matters (4/14), and Viridian's ultimate start of service in Illinois will depend on the speed of the case. Viridian's application is limited to seeking to serve all customer classes at ComEd only, and it is not seeking authority to serve customers at Ameren at this time.

Additionally, Viridian will start offering electric service at Niagara Mohawk, NYSEG, and Central Hudson in the "early summer," according to Cami Boehme, Viridian's Vice President of Marketing and Brand Communications. Viridian launched electric service at Consolidated Edison early this year, and the New York expansion is driven by its "initial success" at ConEd, Boehme said.

Boehme told Matters that expanding Viridian's product line to natural gas remains a long-term goal, but does not have any definitive plans at this time. As only noted in Matters, Viridian has received a Pennsylvania gas license is seeking an Ohio gas license (1/14).

Entering the Massachusetts electric market, where Viridian is already licensed, is also among Viridian's future plans, but timing is dependent upon, among other things, adoption of Purchase of Receivables in the state.

As first reported in Matters, Viridian recently announced surpassing 150,000 customers.
