Supermarket Procurement Co-op Expanding to Electricity Brokering

TopSource LLC, the not-for-resale procurement arm of grocer cooperative Topco Associates LLC, is expanding its suite of services to include procurement of competitive electricity.

TopSource said it is applying for electric broker licenses in several states where its member stores operate. It has specifically filed an application for a Pennsylvania electric broker/marketer license to serve commercial customers over 25 kW in all service areas.

Previously TopSource worked with electric brokers to negotiate contracts for its members, rather than acting as its own broker. It also offers members sourcing services for natural gas service, sustainability resource planning, utility bill management & audit, and motor fuels.

Topco Associates LLC said that it is the largest cooperative buying organization in retail food.

Topco Associates' website lists over 50 members, including several distributors in Texas and the Northeast as well as notable retail chains in deregulated energy markets such as:
