Constellation Energy Terminates Sale of Quail Run Plant

June 7, 2011
Email This Story

Constellation Energy has terminated an agreement to sell the 550-megawatt Quail Run natural gas plant in west Texas to High Plains Diversified Energy Corporation.

Constellation had announced in December an agreement to sell the plant for $185.3 million, but High Plains Diversified Energy Corporation could not obtain financing due to a legal ruling denying it authority to issue municipal bonds.

Constellation said that it will retain ownership of the plant, which provides power to the west zone of ERCOT. Constellation said that, "Quail Run will provide energy to support customers in west Texas, including those served by StarTex Power," which was recently acquired by Constellation.
