Ambit Surpasses 500,000 Customers, Consultants Report ComEd Entry This Month

Ambit Energy announced that it passed 500,000 active customers in the first quarter of 2011.

"Our customer count increased 73 percent in 2010, and we are on track to match that pace in 2011," said Ambit Energy Chief Marketing Officer and co-founder Chris Chambless.

Chambless said that Ambit would expand into seven additional markets later this year. A press release issued after the close of business yesterday did not list any specific markets.

Notably, as only reported by Matters (4/1), Ambit recently received an Illinois electric supplier license.

It has not yet formally confirmed entry plans for Illinois, but several Ambit consultants report a June 23 entry date for Commonwealth Edison. Ambit is currently active in the Nicor area for gas service in Illinois.

Ambit is also active in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

Ambit reported that it has 130,000 independent consultants under its network marketing model.
