AEP Retail Energy Seeks Option 1 REP Certificate in Texas

June 20, 2011
Email This Story

AEP Texas Commercial & Industrial Limited Partnership has again applied to amend its Texas REP certificate from an Option 2 REP to an Option 1 REP.

Option 2 REPs may only serve customers in excess of 1 MW which sign an affidavit agreeing to such service. Option 1 REPs may serve all customers without restriction.

AEP Texas Commercial & Industrial Limited Partnership, which may also market as AEP Retail Energy and AEP Plus under the current certificate, had previously sought Option 1 status in January as first reported by Matters (1/31), but later withdrew the filing.

The January filing had been protested by the Alliance for Retail Markets, which argued that the use of the AEP name by a competitive retailer would confuse customers, given its use by regulated distribution companies AEP Texas Central and AEP Texas North (see 2/16).
