Illinois Posts Migration Stats for May 2011

August  5, 2011

The Illinois Commerce Commission has posted electric migration statistics as of May 2011.

The ICC's Office of Retail Market Development has already reported a snapshot of more recent results, stating in its annual report that as of June 24, 2011, about 83,000 residential customers at Commonwealth Edison had switched to competitive supply (see 7/4).

This 83,000 figure takes into account all customers that have enrolled with a competitive supplier, regardless of having completed the first billing cycle. The switching statistics linked below only reflect those switched customers whose have completed a billing cycle on competitive supply.

Data for MidAmerican and Mt. Carmel have also been updated on the ICC's website

The May stats show about 21,000 migrated residential customers at ComEd as of the end of May, as previously reported during discovery in connection with the ongoing ComEd POR rehearing process.

Both the 0-100 kW and 100 kW-400 kW classes at ComEd continue to see only marginal migration growth month to month, with the May increases in terms of migrated accounts representing gains of less than one percentage point versus April.

At Ameren, migrated residential customers as of the end of May (who had completed a billing cycle on competitive supply) were still less than 100 in each rate zone. More recently, a few additional suppliers have begun offering service at Ameren, with at least five residential suppliers now making residential offers in the service area (BlueStar Energy Solutions, Champion Energy Services, Constellation Energy, Nordic Energy Services, and Integrys Energy Services).
