TXU Launches New Plans with Southwest Airlines Rewards

TXU Energy has launched three new "LUV 2 Fly" plans under an exclusive partnership with Southwest Airlines through which TXU customers can earn up to 30,000 Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Points to use towards free flights.

The plans are fixed price offers for terms of 30, 24, or 12 months.

For the 30-month plan, customers receive 10,000 points for enrollment, 10,000 points after their first 12 months on the plan, and another 10,000 points when the term ends.

For the 24-month plan, customers receive 10,000 points for enrollment, and 5,000 points every year they're on the plan, for a total of 20,000 points.

For the 12-month plan, customers receive 2,500 points for enrollment, and an additional 2,500 points at the end of the term, for a total of 5,000 points.

The products include an early cancellation fee as follows: $100 for the 12-month plan, $200 for the 24-month plan, and $250 for the 30-month plan.

The cancellation fee is waived if the customer cancels before the due date of their first bill.

Pricing for the LUV 2 Fly plans in the Oncor area is as follows (all pricing reflects average for 1,000 kWh monthly usage):

12 Months: 11.8 cents per kWh

24 Months: 11.8 cents per kWh

30 Months: 12.9 cents per kWh

For comparison, the most comparable 12-month product publicly listed by TXU is its e-Saver 12 plan, at 10.5 cents per kWh, which includes a 0.2 cents per kWh discount for billing cycles in which the customer is enrolled in recurring payment through credit card or bank draft.

TXU's most comparable 24-month plan is Texas Choice 24, at 11.6 cents per kWh, which includes 3% cash back and a $125 Visa prepaid gift card.
