Simple Energy to Reward Dallas, Houston Customers for Reducing Energy Usage January 12, 2012 Email This Story Copyright 2010-12 Energy Choice Matters
Simple Energy, a company which offers rewards to customers for reducing electricity usage, is offering its online program to customers at Oncor and CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric with provisioned advanced meters.
Simple Energy told Matters that it is not working with a REP or TDU in offering the program in Texas at this time. Nor is it monetizing the efficiency in any way.
The Texas offering is about product development, and testing and demonstrating the program's potential, said Yoav Lurie, Founder and CEO of Simple Energy.
The Simple Energy platform normalizes energy usage across wide geographic areas, allowing participants to compete with their friends and neighbors -- similar to a golf handicap.
In addition, players can form teams in order to compete on behalf of a cause that they support, such as a school or community organization. Finally, the program follows what Simple Energy termed strict privacy guidelines, simply comparing normalized scores among users without revealing any personalized, individual details about actual energy consumption.
Customers can receive points for both daily performance in efficiency, as well as for inviting friends to join or posting accomplishments on social media sites.
