Gulf Oil LP expects to apply for a New York supplier license in the next few months, Michael Lordi, Director of Retail Energy Business Development for Gulf, told Matters.

As reported yesterday, Gulf Oil has stated its intent to expand its new Gulf Electricity retail supply business nationally. Service in Connecticut is slated to start in March, and Gulf Oil is also a licensed supplier in Massachusetts, which will be the next immediate target.

Beyond that, Lordi said that while Gulf has no definitive timeline, it does expect to start pursuing a New York ESCO license in the next few months. Lordi also said that executives at Gulf are discussing the Pennsylvania market, though no timetable has been established for entry there.

Gulf Oil operates in over 27 states, and has recently been engaged in a national expansion of its petroleum and motor fuels business that has seen it expand beyond its traditional Northeast footprint, including to states with competitive retail energy markets such as Georgia and Texas.

In Connecticut, Gulf has 164 fuel stations, 54 of which are in combination with a Cumberland Farms convenience store. Cumberland Farms has a total of 65 stories in Connecticut.
