ComEd: Half of Residential Customers to Switch by Year-End

Commonwealth Edison said today that it estimates that approximately half of residential customers could switch to an alternative retail electric supplier by the end of the year.

This is largely driven by the number of opt-out aggregations approved Tuesday, supplemented by organic switching by individual customers.

It is worth noting that a 50% switch rate would be in excess of the level (33%) needed for a competitive declaration for a customer class. By statute, a utility may not seek a competitive declaration for the residential class prior to July 1, 2012.
