Reliant has officially launched an electricity plan coupled with a "learning" thermostat designed to help manage home electricity use.
Reliant said that it is the first and only electricity provider in Texas to offer the Nest Learning Thermostat, under Reliant's new Learn & Conserve Plan.
Reliant said that the Nest Learning Thermostat learns about the customer's lifestyle and automatically adjusts itself when customers are away; guides them to energy-efficient temperatures when they're home; and frees them from programming hassles by creating a personalized schedule based on temperature-change history.
Enrollment in the Reliant Learn & Conserve Plan is limited, and provides one Nest Learning Thermostat per household.
Reliant's Learn & Conserve Plan is a 24-month fixed rate with 20% renewable power.
At Oncor, the average price per kWh for 1,000 kWh is 11.0¢/kWh.
At CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, the average price per kWh for 1,000 kWh is 11.1¢/kWh.
An early termination fee of $295 applies.
The Nest Learning Thermostat programs itself and remembers the temperatures customers prefer, and learns customers' schedule within a week. No programming is necessary.
The Nest Learning Thermostat adjusts itself when customers are out, and customers can also control thermostat, adjust its schedule, and see their energy history from their smartphone, tablet or laptop.
"While only about 10% of programmable thermostats are ever actually programmed, 99% of installed Nest Learning Thermostats are running a schedule that reflects the owners' lives," said Elizabeth Killinger, Reliant Senior Vice President, Residential and Operations.
