Bounce Energy today launched a critical peak rebate demand response program for the company's Texas residential customers.

Under the program, which requires the customer to have a provisioned advanced meter, Bounce Energy will include a rebate on the customer's monthly bill if the customer reduces usage below a baseline during called events.

The rebate will be 5% off the total bill for each month in which an event or events are called. The rebate will be the same each month regardless of the number of events called per month.

The criteria for earning the rebate for a specific event or events will be set by Bounce on an event-by-event basis.

Customers must opt into the program, but there is no penalty for not reducing usage in response to a called event.

The program, branded as Peak Rewards, allows Bounce Energy to call for demand reductions during the peak hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on high demand days.

Bounce Energy conducted a trial of the program on June 25 and June 26, and reported that residential customers reacted by reducing their total afternoon load by over 10% below forecast.

Critical peak event alerts are sent to customers via email, text messages, MyAccount messages, Bounce Energy's website, and social media pages.

Bounce Energy said that in order to pique customers' interest to opt-in to the program, Bounce Energy now sends out a weekly email that shows each residential customer how much usage they use weekly.
