The number of residential electric customers in Illinois who have completed at least one billing cycle on competitive supply topped 1 million for the first time in August, according to a snapshot of statistics posted by the Illinois Commerce Commission.

The Plug-In Illinois site has been updated with the number of residential accounts migrated to (and billed on) competitive supply as of August 31. More detailed statistics (such as % of customers switched and load data), and statistics for non-residential classes, has not yet been posted as of press time.

As previously noted, the ICC migration statistics discussed below show customers who have switched to a competitive supplier and have completed at least one billing cycle on competitive supply. Accordingly, the data lags completed enrollments.

According to the Plug-In Illinois report, nearly 713,000 ComEd residential customers had completed at least one billing cycle on competitive supply as of August 31, 2012, compared with 527,000 as of July 31; 437,000 as of June 30, 2012; and 406,000 as of May 31, 2012.

The aggregation-driven growth of 186,000 residential shoppers at ComEd during August is double the already-record July growth of 90,000.

At the three Ameren rate zones, collectively, the number of residential customers who had switched to a competitive supplier and had completed at least one billing cycle on competitive supply increased by 25,000 from July 31, 2012 to August 31, 2012.

In contrast, Ameren residential shopping growth, driven by aggregation, had been 126,000 accounts from June 30, 2012 to July 31, 2012.

Residential customers at Ameren who have switched to a competitive supplier and have completed at least one billing cycle on competitive supply as of August 31, 2012 were as follows:

Rate Zone I, AmerenCIPS: 59,405

Rate Zone II, AmerenCILCO: 116,882

Rate Zone III, AmerenIP: 123,584

The net growth in residential accounts billed on competitive supply at Ameren during August, compared to the July totals, was as follows:

Rate Zone I, AmerenCIPS: +3,359

Rate Zone II, AmerenCILCO: +1,518

Rate Zone III, AmerenIP: +19,963

Detailed migration statistics as of August 31, 2012, including non-residential migration and percent of customers billed on competitive supply, have not yet been posted by the ICC as of press time.
