As first reported by Matters yesterday, XOOM Energy, LLC, announced that it has acquired Planet Energy Corp.'s U.S.-based natural gas and electricity customers in New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

With this acquisition, XOOM Energy, through its New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland subsidiaries, will acquire residential and business customers in 16 utility markets across three states.

Customers acquired by XOOM included those at:

Pennsylvania
• PPL
• West Penn Power
• Columbia Gas
• PECO (Natural Gas and Electric)

New York
• ConEdison (Natural Gas and Electric)
• RG&E (Natural Gas and Electric)
• NYSEG (Electric only)
• Niagara Mohawk (Natural Gas and Electric)
• Keyspan Long Island
• Keyspan New York

Maryland
• Baltimore Gas & Electric (Natural Gas and Electric)

The customer books acquired represented the entirety of Planet Energy's U.S. customer base.

Including the newly acquired customers, XOOM Energy's service territory will extend to 12 states and 48 markets.

XOOM Energy would not disclose a purchase price or customer total.

"Our plan has been to become a major player in the energy retail industry by offering electricity and natural gas across the U.S. Planet Energy's U.S.-based markets were a perfect addition to our footprint, accelerating our expansion into the Northeast," stated Tom Ulry, Chief Executive Officer of XOOM Energy. "Strategically, it's a great fit," Ulry added. "Since our initial market launch in July 2011, we have taken an aggressive approach to expansion, and this acquisition is another step towards reaching that goal and providing our sales partners one of the largest sales territories any retailer can offer."

XOOM has begun to operationalize its platform and systems in these 16 markets and expects to complete the integration of the acquired customers before the end of the first quarter of next year. "We look forward to serving these customers and offering them product choices not previously made available to them," noted Ulry.
