TXU Energy saw net churn of only 6,000 residential customers from September 30, 2012 to December 31, 2012, but when excluding customers acquired from Mega Energy, churn was up slightly versus churn during the three months ended September 30, 2012, according to an Energy Future Holdings 10-K and analyst presentation posted this morning.

From September 30, 2012 to December 31, 2012, TXU lost a net of only 6,000 residential customers, compared to the net loss of 12,000 residential customers from June 30, 2012 to September 30, 2012, and the net loss of 25,000 residential customers from March 31, 2012 to June 30, 2012.

It should be noted that in late December 2012, TXU acquired about 10,000 residential and business customers from Mega Energy, the vast majority of which are understood to have been switched to TXU prior to December 31, 2012.

When excluding the acquisition of Mega Energy customers, TXU saw a net loss of 19,000 residential customers from September 30, 2012 to December 31, 2012. While that's up slightly versus the net churn seen during the three months ended September 30, 2012, it's still below the churn seen in prior quarters.

When including the Mega Energy customers, the net loss of 6,000 customers is the lowest net loss of residential customers over a three month period since TXU last recorded net growth in its residential customer count, which last occurred during the three months ended March 31, 2009.

EFH said that TXU residential attrition rates during the fourth quarter of 2012 improved 48% compared to Q4 2011, and recorded the best performance since 2009. For the year 2012, TXU's residential attrition rate slowed to 4.8%, a 42% improvement from 8.2% in 2011

When including the acquired Mega Energy customers, as of December 31, 2012, TXU was serving 1.560 million residential customers, compared to 1.566 million [per 10-Q] as of September 30, 2012, and 1.625 million a year ago.

When excluding the customers acquired from Mega Energy, TXU was serving 1.547 million residential customers as of December 31, 2012.

TXU's small business (< 1 MW) customer count stood at 176,000 meters as of December 31, 2012, which was flat versus the September 30, 2012 total and compares to 185,000 as of a year ago.

TXU's large business customer count as of December 31, 2012 was 17,000 meters, which was flat versus the September 30, 2012 total and compares to 19,000 as of a year ago.

Total TXU retail customer count was 1.753 million meters as of December 31, 2012, versus 1.759 million meters as of September 30, 2012, and 1.829 million meters a year ago.
