Flash: NRG Reports Significant Slowdown in Retail Customer Growth; Texas Mass Market Margins "Steady"

NRG Energy saw only marginal growth in its retail customer base from June 30, 2013 to September 30, 2013, according to a presentation released in conjunction with quarterly earnings.

Specifically, from June 30, 2013 to September 30, 2013, NRG Energy's retail customer base grew by 5,000 accounts, from 2.254 million to 2.259 million.

For comparison, from March 31, 2013 to June 30, 2013, NRG's retail customer growth had been 23,000 accounts, and growth from December 31, 2012 to March 31, 2013 had been 21,000 accounts.

NRG also said that, "Mass market margins remain steady in Texas" but that it faced, "continued pressure in the Northeast and C&I segments."

NRG is holding an earnings call this morning.
