FirstEnergy Solutions Offering Six-Year Rate in New Territory

FirstEnergy Solutions is now offering residential customers at Met-Ed a fixed rate of 7.91 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) on electric generation through December 2019. The product includes a $100 early termination fee. FirstEnergy Solutions had previously offered a seven-year product in the territory.

Texas Review of POLR/Affiliate Rule Continues Due to Concerns Over Uplift Costs

The Public Utility Commission of Texas will further consider proposed changes to Provider of Last Resort rules to allow an affiliate of a non-volunteer POLR to assume that POLR's obligations, in order to address Commissioner Kenneth Anderson's concern that the rules do not reflect a requirement for the original POLR to assume all of the obligations of its affiliate if the affiliate defaults -- including market uplift and TDU charges -- as the rule's currently proposed language could be read as only requiring the original POLR to serve its affiliate's POLR customers if the affiliate defaults, but would not require the original POLR to assume related market costs from the default. Anderson raised this concern at a prior open meeting as more fully discussed in our December article (click here). Staff will work on developing draft language to expand the obligation of the original POLR to cover all affiliate obligations, with the language then considered by the Commission at a future open meeting.

Retail Supplier Installs Wind Power Turbines at Honda Plant

Honda will begin operation of two power-producing wind turbines next week at its plant in Russells Point, Ohio, through an agreement with a subsidiary of ConEdison Solutions. The two wind turbines will supply approximately 10 percent of the plant’s electricity. Based on their location and actual wind speeds, combined output from the two wind turbines is estimated at 10,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year. ConEdison Solutions will own and operate the two turbines, through its subsidiary, RP Wind, LLC. Through agreements with Honda, ConEdison Solutions will generate electricity for the plant, and be responsible for an interconnect agreement with the Logan County Electric Cooperative and an additional agreement with Buckeye Power, Inc., an Ohio electric cooperative.
