People's Counsel Seeks Complaint Data on Retail Supplier; Supplier Disputes OPC Characterization of Complaints
The Maryland Office of People's Counsel has requested information from the Maryland PSC's Office of External Relations concerning complaints filed against Starion Energy.
In its request, OPC states that it, "has learned of recent complaints regarding Starion's continuing marketing in Maryland."
In a statement to Matters, Starion disputed that the complaints relate to "continuing marketing."
"OPC's request to the PSC comes as a surprise to Starion, as OPC has not communicated any concerns of the alleged 'continuing marketing' to Starion directly. In fact, Starion has honored its commitment not to market to new customers in Maryland and the only recent complaints involve issues Starion has already fully addressed with the MD Commission and OPC. Our internal records show that all complaints received from September 1, 2013 to the present involve customers who enrolled with Starion before Starion voluntarily stopped marketing to new customers in Maryland and before the Maryland Public Service Commission initiated its evidentiary proceeding. Starion would like to reiterate its position that all parties, including consumers, are best served when there are open lines of communication between suppliers, regulators and consumer advocates. If the OPC has any concerns, Starion welcomes hearing those concerns and an opportunity to address them in a productive dialogue," Starion said.
OPC requested a compilation of all complaints regarding Starion made between September 1, 2013 and the present.
