NRG Residential Solar Solutions is offering customers $600 for referring a customer who installs a solar system.

To start, NRG Residential Solar Solutions is paying customers a $100 Visa gift card every time a qualified homeowner referred by the customer gets an on-site visit from NRG's installation partner.

Additionally, if the referral customer installs a solar system, NRG will provide both the referring customer and the referral customer with a $500 Visa gift card when the referral customer's installation is complete

The referring customer is responsible for the tax implications of receiving $600 or more from NRG Residential Solar Solutions and is responsible for filling out necessary tax forms before passing the $600 threshold.

NRG Residential Solar Solutions is currently operating in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, and Washington D.C., with expansion plans for additional states.

EnergyChoiceMatters.com first reported in December that NRG Residential Solar Solutions was offering residential customers a solar leasing package that includes two years of free electricity from its affiliated retail electricity provider, for usage not met by the solar panels (click here for full details).

The offer was initially available for a limited time and only for customers in the PSE&G territory of New Jersey.

However, NRG Residential Solar is still offering two years free electricity (up to 10,000 kWh per year, supply charges only), as part of a $0 down solar lease, to the first 250 customers enrolling, with the offer now expanded to any service area in New Jersey.

If the customer exceeds the annual 10,000 kWh cap, NRG Residential Solar Solutions will assess an excess usage fee of $250.
