PJM Provides Pennsylvania PUC With Info on Generation Outages
PJM has provided the Pennsylvania PUC with information on generation facility outages during the cold weather event of January 6-8.
As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com (click here), the PUC is "investigating" the causes of anomalous PJM wholesale market charges experienced in January.
PJM specifically provided the PUC with information responsive to the following requests from the PUC:
1) A list of generation facilities within the PJM region that experienced forced outages during the recent cold weather event of January 6-8, 2014. For each facility, provide the facility name, name of owner, MW capacity, type of facility (nuclear, coal, combustion turbine, etc.) and state where facility is located.
2) For each forced outage event please provide the reason for the forced outage (gas supply interruption or curtailment, mechanical/electrical system failure, operator error).
PJM said in a communication to members that, "The PAPUC Staff is interested in this information in light of the higher forced outage rate for the most recent cold weather event as compared to prior years. The Staff is also interested in examining more closely gas/electric coordination during the most recent extreme weather events."
