NRG Residential Solutions has ceased offering "generally available" retail electric offers to Connecticut customers, according to a June 3 regulatory price filing.

In a June 3 monthly price filing to PURA, NRG Residential Solutions said that it, "does not currently have any generally available offers," in Connecticut. "Please remove NRG Residential Solutions from the EnergizeCT web site as soon as practical," NRG requested.

To be clear, although NRG Residential typically offers customizable plans, it had previously considered its residential Nest and Essential plans "generally available" offers, and such plans had been listed as "generally available" offers in a May price filing to PURA.

The NRG Residential Solutions website does not currently offer any plans for Connecticut -- listing service as unavailable (for service under both its "off the shelf" products such as the Nest and Essential plans, and its customizable plans).

Until this recent withdrawal of active generally available offers, NRG Residential Solutions had been growing its Connecticut customer base since launching service on or about the month of February. According to data filed by the utilities, as of April 30, 2014, Reliant Energy Northeast LLC, for which NRG Residential Solutions is a trade name, was serving 629 accounts in Connecticut, representing growth of 152 since March 31, 2014. As of April 30, 2014, Reliant Energy Northeast was serving 109 residential accounts.

Although such growth is incremental, any growth by a supplier in the Connecticut market is noteworthy given the challenging environment.

NRG provided the following statement to Matters concerning Connecticut:

"NRG Retail has been and remains committed to doing business in CT and expects that the NRG Residential Solutions website will be active and available to consumers in CT shortly."

Although there are a multitude of statutory and regulatory changes occurring in the Connecticut retail market, NRG said that, "The unavailability of the NRG Residential Solutions website to consumers in CT is not related to any regulatory conditions in CT."
