PSC Concedes Fine on Broker Was "Excessive" Reduces It By Nearly 50%
The Maryland PSC has reduced a fine imposed on Burton Energy Group, Inc. for brokering natural gas supply without a license agreeing, that the initial fine was "excessive."
Originally, the PSC fined Burton Energy Group $18,100.
Citing actual sales in Maryland during a four-year period in question, which would be entirely "wipe[d] out" under the original fine, Burton sought a reduction in the fine.
"In light of the recently provided revenue data, and in keeping with the requirements of Public Utilities Article ('PUA') §13-201, the Commission hereby grants Burton's request for a decrease of the civil penalty imposed. The Commission recognizes that in the context of information provided by the Company, the amount of the initial penalty was excessive, and therefore decreases the amount of the civil penalty to be paid by Burton Energy Group, Inc. to ten-thousand dollars ($10,000.00)," the PSC said.
