FirstEnergy Utilities Drive Return to Residential Shopping Growth in Pennsylvania

After a holiday-impacted week saw Pennsylvania slip back to a statewide loss in residential electric shopping customers, the FirstEnergy utilities are now again driving statewide growth in residential electric shopping, according to the latest stats from the Pennsylvania PUC.

From about July 10 to July 16 (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw the total number of residential accounts on competitive supply increase by over 1,600, reversing the net loss of 1,500 residential shoppers experienced in the immediately prior week.

It remains to be seen whether the FirstEnergy EDCs can sustain this weekly level of residential migration growth, given that their September 1 Prices to Compare will be about 20-25% lower than the current PTCs (click here for story).

Specifically, from about July 10 to July 16 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) the weekly change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply was:
