PPL has seen its first weekly growth in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply since shortly after customers began feeling the impacts of the polar vortex, according to the June 30 shopping statistics from the Pennsylvania PUC.

Although PPL saw net residential shopping growth of only 44 customers during the most recent week, it's the first net growth that the utility has recorded since approximately the last week of February of this year (which had been the point at which customer returns to default service related to vortex-impacted late January and February bills began taking effect, due to the switching timeline).

For the most recent week (July 24 to July 30, with reporting date varying slightly by utility), statewide residential shopping growth actually slowed, with net growth of 560 residential accounts on competitive supply, versus growth of about 1,000 a week ago.

PECO and Duquesne Light continue to see weekly net declines in residential shopping.

Specifically, from about July 24 to July 30 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) the weekly change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply was:

Duquesne Light (214)
Met-Ed 497
PECO (819)
Penelec 541
Penn Power 65
PPL 44
West Penn Power 448

For comparison, from about July 17 to July 23 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) the weekly change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply was:

Duquesne Light (227)
Met-Ed 694
PECO (324)
Penelec 540
Penn Power 51
PPL (404)
West Penn Power 650
