Direct Energy has expanded its plan offering residential customers free power on Saturday or Sunday to Commonwealth Edison in Illinois.

Direct Energy said that enrollment in Free Power Saturday and Free Power Sunday is available for up to 15,000 customers with smart meters, because "ComEd's systems currently allow a maximum of 15,000 customers on a time-sensitive pricing service with a competitive electric supplier."

Free Power Saturday and Free Power Sunday are both 15-month products. A fixed rate of 8.59¢/kWh applies for 6 days of the week, with the customer not charged for energy supply on their chosen free day (Saturday or Sunday). Customers will still be charged taxes for power used on the free day, plus utility charges.

There is no early cancellation fee.
