Wholesale Power Marketer Renewable Power Direct Expanding to Retail Market

Renewable Power Direct, a wholesale power marketer which heretofore has concentrated on providing wholesale renewable power to customers via the customer's existing load serving entity (essentially as a matchmaker), is expanding its service to include serving customers at retail in states with electric choice.

Renewable Power Direct has applied for an Option 2 Texas retail electric provider certificate. Option 2 REPs are limited to serving customers 1 MW or larger who provide an affidavit agreeing to such service.

Renewable Power Direct recently announced that it has entered into a set of agreements with Tenaska Power Services Co. (TPS) to provide credit services, energy scheduling and other trading support services to support RPD's marketing of wind and solar electricity directly to commercial and industrial customers in Texas (ERCOT), the mid-Atlantic states (PJM), California (CAISO) and certain other regional power markets.

Included in Renewable Power Direct's Texas application was an affidavit from Tenaska stating, "TPS has a contract with Renewable Power Direct, LLC ('RPD') under which TPS has committed to appoint RPD as a Retail Electric Provider ('REP') to assist TPS in providing REP services for certain loads, which may be later designated in particular contracts, that have one megawatt or more of capacity."

TPS will also serve as a preferred RPD supplier of wholesale physical power from renewable sources, as well as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

Current RPD stockholders include the American Clean Skies Foundation (ACSF), a Washington D.C. based clean energy non-profit, and Skipping Stone, a Newport Beach, CA based independent energy consulting firm.
