Regulator to Hold Technical Meeting on Retail Supplier's Use of Trade Names

The Connecticut PURA will hold a technical meeting with Reliant Energy Northeast, LLC on December 17, 2014 to discuss the following items:

• The corporate structure of Reliant and its use of d/b/a names in Connecticut;

• Reliant's marketing practices, operations in Connecticut and compliance with Connecticut's legal requirements and the Authority's Orders issued in Docket No. 13-07-18;

• The customers' inability to locate Reliant's information on the Rate Board; and

• Any other issues relating to Reliant's electric supplier license that may arise from the course of this proceeding.

The Authority requested Connecticut Light and Power and United Illuminating to present witnesses at the technical meeting who can testify and provide information and/or evidence relating to Reliant's records, enrollment practices and other transactions or interfaces with the companies.

Reliant told EnergyChoiceMatters.com that, "We are interested to see what PURA has to say and look forward to a candid and constructive discussion with PURA staff."

Among other things, PURA's November 5 decision in Docket 13-07-18 now requires that each supplier's website shall clearly display: (1) the supplier's official name and trade name(s), if any. Written contracts must now include the supplier's official and trade name (the name of the supplier's corporate parent is insufficient, PURA has said)

Reliant also confirmed that it is not accepting new customers in Connecticut. As previously reported, Reliant, under the NRG Residential Solutions brand, had ceased offering service to new Connecticut customers in June.
