Retail Supplier Says Hold Message Branding Which Led to Removal From Rate Board Was Oversight
Public Power informed the Connecticut PURA that a hold message for customers calling Public Power that continued to reference Levco Energy was an oversight, and was promptly corrected.
PURA disclosed earlier this month that a message for customers calling Public Power who are placed on hold still (at that time) referenced Levco Energy. In response, PURA removed Public Power from the Energize CT rate board, as PURA has previously directed Public Power that to assure that its legal agents or third-party contractors perform all marketing and/or enrollment activities under Public Power's name and that all marketing materials must bear Public Power's name exclusively.
In a response to PURA, Public Power said that, "This hold message was an oversight and has been immediately corrected to remove LEVCO's name."
"By way of background, in response to the Authority's November 18, 2014 letter, Public Power immediately contacted Mr. Marcelynas [of PURA Staff] to discuss how Public Power could ensure compliance with the Authority's rules and regulations. As part of Public Power's effort to ensure compliance, LEVCO revised its marketing to ensure that consumers understand that Public Power is the licensed energy supplier and that LEVCO acts as a broker for multiple Connecticut license electric suppliers. Additionally, the website linked to the Rate Board was solely branded as Public Power and a toll-free telephone was set up for Public Power. LEVCO and Public Power provided Mr. Marcelynas with the screenshots of the proposed website to ensure that Mr. Marcelynas approved of the website changes before they were implemented."
"Unfortunately, it was an oversight that the hold message contained LEVCO's name. However, in all other regards, Public Power and LEVCO have demonstrated their serious commitment to compliance and removed all references to 'LEVCO Energy' in its marketing materials, website, enrollment activities and interactions with customers. Please note that, as discussed previously, in order to be accurate and prevent consumer confusion, LEVCO has kept a message on its company website that 'LEVCO acts as a broker for Connecticut license electric suppliers,'" Public Power said.
