Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton announced that Angela O'Connor, who formerly managed the PowerOptions retail energy purchasing group, will serve as Chair of the Department of Public Utilities.

O'Connor was previously Operations Manager for the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority PowerOptions program, the largest energy-purchasing consortium in New England consisting of colleges and universities, hospitals, other non-profits, and municipalities

O'Connor also previously served as President of the New England Power Generators Association (NEPGA) and Vice President of Energy Policy at Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

Most recently, she served as Executive Director for New England operations for TechNet from February 2011 until November 2014. O'Connor was previously a small business owner as well.

Robert Hayden will also serve as Commissioner of the Department of Public Utilities. Hayden joined the Department of Public Utilities in 2001 and has served as a Hearing Officer in the Legal Division and focused on enforcement in the Pipeline Safety Division. Prior to joining the Department of Public Utilities, Hayden was a prosecutor with the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office where he prosecuted nearly two hundred trials for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

"I'm excited to work on behalf of the Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito Administration to ensure gas pipeline safety, electric reliability and adequate supplies of energy resources to mitigate market price volatility in the Commonwealth," said Hayden.

Additionally, Ronald Gerwatowski will serve as Assistant Secretary for Energy. Gerwatowski is the former Senior Vice President for United States Regulation and Pricing for National Grid, where he had executive responsibility for rates and related energy policy matters for National Grid's United States businesses.

Daniel Burgess was named Commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources. Burgess currently serves as the Department of Energy Resources Deputy Commissioner, and previously as the Energy and Environmental Affairs Legislative Director of Energy.
