Viridian Energy is set to officially launch electricity service in Rhode Island, at National Grid in the next week.

Viridian Energy's website already lists rates for Rhode Island National Grid residential and commercial customers on its website, but it appears enrollment cannot be completed at this time online, so we caution any rates in this story should be viewed as preliminary in nature.

For National Grid Rhode Island residential customers, Viridian's website lists three types of 36-month fixed or hybrid products, under its 3Dom program, as well as a monthly variable rate. Each product is offered with 50% or 100% renewable energy.

Most notably is that Viridian has expanded its 3Dom hybrid product line to include a "Flex Auto Lock" plan.

When launched, 3Dom originally consisted of a standard 36-month fixed rate, and a 36-month hybrid/fixed product, which initially provides a floating rate but which allows the customer to convert to a fixed rate, as established on their initial enrollment date, at the customer's election.

The new 3Dom "Flex Auto Lock" option is similar to the original hybrid product, except that, rather than the customer electing when the fixed rate (determined before enrollment) takes effect, the fixed rate automatically takes effect after 6 months.

For residential customers at National Grid Rhode Island, Viridian's website lists the standard 36 months fixed, 50% green product at a rate of 10.19¢/kWh.

For residential customers at National Grid Rhode Island, Viridian's website lists the 3Dom "Flex Auto Lock", 50% green option with an initial rate of 9.74¢/kWh. The rate shall be 5% below the customer's Utility Price Index at time of enrollment for up to 6 months. After 6 months, the rate becomes a fixed rate of 10.19¢/kWh for the duration of the contract.

The 50% green products are 50% green in addition to any state RPS requirement.
