Prepaid Brand of Texas REP Now Listing on Power to Choose

Zip Energy, the prepaid brand of AP Gas & Electric, has begun listing prepaid offers on the Power to Choose site.

While the Zip Energy brand has been in place since 2011, APG&E told EnergyChoiceMatters.com last year that it had not been actively marketing the brand, and had very few customers with the brand, but was seeking to broadly launch Zip Energy's prepaid service in the near future.

Zip Energy is offering prepaid service at Oncor, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, and Texas-New Mexico Power.

In each service area, Zip Energy's prepaid products include a 12-month fixed rate, and two variable rate options (one with a daily base charge, and the other with a monthly fee).

Zip Energy's 12-month fixed product includes the following all-in average rates at 1,000 kWh in each territory (¢/kWh):

Oncor:              10.5¢
CenterPoint:        11.5¢
AEP TCC:            10.9¢
AEP TNC:            10.6¢
TNMP:               10.6¢

These average rates reflect a monthly charge of $5.95 and the following energy rates (¢/kWh):

Oncor:               9.9¢
CenterPoint:        10.9¢
AEP TCC:            10.3¢
AEP TNC:            10.0¢
TNMP:               10.0¢

The product includes a $150 early termination fee.

Prepaid service fees include a $10 disconnection fee, $10 reconnect fee, and $5 fee for a copy of the Summary of Usage and Payments
