ConEd Files to Lower Hourly Pricing Cutoff
Consolidated Edison has filed to lower the cutoff for mandatory hourly pricing for default service customers from 500 kW to 300 kW under a newly filed rate case.
ConEd proposes to expand mandatory hourly pricing (MHP) to customers in the 300kW-500kW range over a four-year period, from 2016 to January 2019.
"This expansion will provide more customers with price signals and potentially reduce usage in peak hours through customers' engagement in energy management strategies, consistent with policies outlined by the Commission in the MHP Proceeding and current REV initiatives," ConEd said.
A reduction in the demand threshold for MHP to 300 kW would expose an additional 1,600 customers to hourly priced default service.
The majority of customers with billed demand between 300 and 500 kW are taking service from ESCOs and are not being billed for full service by ConEd. About 29 percent or 460 customers of the approximately 1,600 customers between 300 kW and 500 kW are currently being billed full service by ConEd.
