Reliant Officially Rolls Out Home Automation, Security Products

Reliant yesterday officially rolled out a suite of home security and automation service offerings, which had been first tipped by RetailEnergyX.com last fall

Reliant is offering with its Free Weekends 24 plan a home automation suite that includes a smart thermostat, smart plug and gateway device at no additional cost.

Customers can use the NRG Home+ app, which had been first reported by RetailEnergyX.com , to:

• Connect to devices via the gateway;

• Set schedules for appliances and lights using their smart plug; and

• Lower cooling and heating bills by setting a smart schedule for their thermostat, which Reliant said can reduce costs up to 10% annually according to a Department of Energy study.

In the Oncor service area, the Free Weekends 24 plan has an average all-in rate (at 1,000 kWh) of 12.2¢/kWh. The product includes a weekday energy charge 12.3¢ per kWh, a weekend energy charge of 0¢/kWh (weekend hours are 8:00 PM Friday to 12:00 AM Monday), and a pass-through of Oncor charges of $5.25 per billing cycle and 3.3189¢ per kWh.

Reliant's security suite offers 24/7 professional, live security monitoring services, installation and remote access via mobile devices and computers. Customers can use an app to:

• Arm/disarm their security system;

• Open/close their garage door and know when it’s open or closed;

• Turn on/off their lights even when away from home;

• Unlock/lock their doors remotely to let family, friends, contractors or others into their home; and

• Keep an eye on their home with video cameras that record based on specific actions, such as when the alarm is triggered.
