Pennsylvania Still Seeing Declines in Residential Shopping, Except at PPL, PECO

Most of Pennsylvania's seven large EDCs saw a decline in the number of residential electric customers on competitive supply from March to April, according to the latest stats on PA Power Switch.

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late March to late April was:

Duquesne Light       (1,400)
Met-Ed                 (251)
PECO                  1,048
Penelec              (3,142)
Penn Power           (1,622)
PPL                     536
West Penn Power      (2,780)

In a news release, the PUC noted that western Pennsylvania has seen a large decline in residential shopping since late 2014, attributing the decline to FirstEnergy Solutions' exit from the market -- which EnergyChoiceMatters.com first noted in reporting on the loss of 44,000 Pennsylvania residential shoppers in December 2014.

The PUC said that in March and April, Duquesne saw a decrease of 29,761 customers in the competitive market. West Penn Power's shopping customers decreased by 6,340 and Penn Power's numbers declined by 3,297.
