Retail Supplier Would Make $2.6 Million Charitable Contribution Under Settlement With Regulator

North American Power, LLC would make a voluntary $2.6 million charitable contribution to Operation Fuel, Inc. as part of a settlement to fully resolve a Connecticut PURA investigation into the company's trade practices.

Settling parties include the Connecticut Attorney General, Connecticut Consumer Counsel, and the Prosecutorial Unit of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, in addition to North American Power

The $2.6 million donation, which shall be made in several installments, is voluntary and does not constitute restitution, civil penalty or disgorgement

The investigation (Docket 13-02-06) was originally prompted by certain customer complaints concerning variable rate increases. PURA never issued a formal notice of violation in the proceeding, though the investigation reviewed, among other things, customer rate complaints dating back to the winter of 2012-13, the nature of introductory rate offers, and various NA Power terms of service and marketing materials

North American Power provided the following statement to EnergyChoiceMatters.com:

"We are satisfied that after an exhaustive two-year investigation, the dispute has been resolved with no finding of wrongdoing in the settlement agreement.
