Duquesne Light Seeks To Delay Offering of Time of Use Billing Functionality, Would Accelerate Smart Meter Deployment

Duquesne Light sought Pennsylvania PUC approval for a delay in implementation of certain features of its smart meter deployment plan, specifically the ability to offer Time of Use and real-time pricing billing

Duquesne Light sought to delay implementation of these two features from 2015 to 2016.

Duquesne Light said that bill ready billing would also be implemented in 2016.

Duquesne Light cited prioritization of other backoffice system changes necessary to accommodate accelerated switching as prompting the delay

However, Duquesne Light proposed to accelerate the physical installation of smart meters. Duquesne Light proposes to deploy smart meters to all residential customers over a five-year period, and commercial and industrial customers over a six-year period. Under this proposal, all residential meter installations will be completed by 2018 and commercial and industrial meter installations will be completed by 2019.

Duquesne Light's current deployment plan calls for a seven-year deployment period with competition in 2020.
