PSC Gives Retail Supplier Deadline to Sell Book, Customers Otherwise To Return To Utility Supply
The Michigan PSC has given the Glacial Energy retail suppliers a deadline to sell their Michigan electric and natural gas books, or else the customers will be returned to default service.
As previously reported, Agera Energy is acquiring most of the Glacial Energy retail customers as a result of Glacial's bankruptcy; however, Agera has elected not to acquire Glacial's customers in Michigan, and, as first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, Glacial has sought to sell the Michigan customers to another supplier
To date, a sale of the Glacial Michigan customers has not been executed.
As Glacial is immersed in Chapter 11 proceedings, the PSC expressed concern with its ability to continue as a supplier. Under a settlement with the PSC, Glacial agreed that, to the extent it does not execute a sale by an agreed deadline, its Michigan customers will return to default service.
Specifically, for Glacial Michigan natural gas customers, absent a completed sale by Oct. 30, 2015, the natural gas customers will be notified and returned to utility tariff service. Once returned to the incumbent utility, these customers will be allowed to choose another AGS within two billing periods.
Glacial Michigan electric customers will receive a letter to be mailed on or before Oct. 1, 2015 and have until Nov. 25, 2015 to select a new AES or return to DTE Electric Company as full service customers. Customers who do not enroll with another AES by Nov. 25 will be returned to the incumbent utility.
Electric customers who are currently in their incumbent utility queue waiting to become Glacial customers have until Dec. 30, 2015 to enroll with another AES to preserve their current spot in the queue. If the queued customer does not enroll with another AES prior to Dec. 31, they will be removed from the utility queue and their current queued placement will be forfeited. Notice will be sent to queued customers by Dec. 1.
Glacial serves approximately 500 electric customers (a load of over 23 megawatts) in the service territory of DTE Electric Company. It has approximately 1,800 queued customers in DTE's service territory and about 1,700 queued customers in Consumers Energy’s service territory. It has approximately 1,800 natural gas customers in Michigan.
Glacial has agreed to cease marketing to and enrolling new Michigan customers immediately.
