National Grid Residential, Commercial Default Service Rates To Spike Over 40%

National Grid has filed with the Massachusetts DPU proposed electric basic service rates for the period beginning November 1, 2015 which reflect a 40-47% increase in the basic service rates for residential and commercial customers.

The fixed residential basic service rate would increase over 40% to 13.129¢/kWh for the period November 2015 to April 2016, from the current 9.257¢/kWh

The fixed commercial (G-1) basic service rate would increase over 47% to 12.709¢/kWh for the period November 2015 to April 2016, from the current 8.640¢/kWh

The rates remain subject to DPU approval.

"National Grid remains concerned about volatile and unpredictable electricity supply prices our customers are subject to," Marcy Reed, president of National Grid in Massachusetts, said in a news release

"National Grid continues to advocate for a balanced portfolio of energy resources, including large-scale renewables, increased natural gas capacity and enhanced energy efficiency programs, as the key to securing New England’s long-term energy future and providing our residential and business customers with the stability they need," the company said.
