FirstEnergy Solutions Again Offering Residential Electric Service To New Customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania

FirstEnergy Solutions has begun offering residential electric supply service to new customers in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

FES has generally not offered residential service to new individual customers in over a year, since announcing a strategy in August 2014 to exit the retail market for mass market and mid-sized commercial and industrial customers (see story here). At that time, FES said that going forward new business would be limited to government aggregation sales, primarily in Ohio, POLR load, and selective, strategic sales to large C&I customers

However, "[i]n response to numerous requests from employees and customers, FirstEnergy Solutions is now making a residential offer available in Ohio and Pennsylvania," FES told EnergyChoiceMatters.com

"We are not actively promoting this offer through mass marketing channels, so we expect only a small number of customers to enroll, which will not impact our overall customer profile. We remain committed to our ongoing strategy of mitigating risk by reducing sales to weather-sensitive channels. And going forward, we will continue to balance and fine tune our customer portfolio," FES told Matters.

While not being actively marketed, FES is listing residential electric offers for all Ohio service areas on the PUCO Apples to Apples chart. FES is not currently listing any residential offers on PA Power Switch.

FES last regularly listed a residential offer on Ohio Apples to Apples in August 2014. Now, FES is back on PUCO Apples to Apples with a 24-month fixed price offer in all utility service areas.

The 24-month fixed rate offers from FES are as follows in each service area ($/kWh):

AEP Ohio: $0.0662

Dayton Power & Light: $0.0674

Duke Energy Ohio: $0.0638

Cleveland Electric Illuminating: $0.0765

Ohio Edison: $0.0765

Toledo Edison: $0.0765

Each product includes a $50 early termination fee
