Australian Aggregator Launches Service in U.S.
One Big Switch LLC, an Australian and European aggregator which is newly entering the U.S. market, has launched service and is seeking licenses in more states.
As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, One Big Switch selected Texas as its initial market, and since launching last month, the company has signed up 40,000 for its service.
An initial group of 30,000 customers in the Metroplex were offered various rates from TriEagle Energy.
One Big Switch describes itself as using aggregation pools to, "provide[] exclusive group price creation, not price comparison," in reference to online comparison sites
Further describing its approach in an application for an Illinois ABC license, One Big Switch says that it conducts media campaigns that raise awareness among residential customers of opportunities to save money on electricity by registering as a member of One Big Switch campaigns. At the conclusion of each campaign, One Big Switch will solicit from one or more electricity suppliers offers that each supplier is willing to make available to One Big Switch members. Then, One Big Switch will present these offers to its registered members and allow each member to decide for themselves whether such offer is appropriate.
As indicated above, One Big Switch has applied for an Illinois ABC license, and said that it has also applied for a Pennsylvania broker/marketer license. The company expects to apply for a license in Massachusetts in the near future
One Big Switch LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of One Big Switch Pty Ltd, which has been aggregating customers for retail energy and other services since 2011 in Australia, and has since expanded to Ireland and the United Kingdom
