New Texas Retail Provider Launches Residential Service
Volt Electricity Provider, stylized as Volt EP, has begun marketing residential electric plans in Texas on the Power to Choose site
Volt Electricity Provider was first licensed in 2014, but has not until recently offered residential service on a broad basis. Volt Electricity Provider is not included on the most recent PUCT complaint scorecard, suggesting mass market service is a recent development for Volt EP.
Currently, Volt EP offers residential customers several off-the-shelf plans -- an index plan, a 3 months fixed plan, a 12 months fixed plan, and a 12 months fixed plan with discounted rates for nighttime and early morning usage -- and also offers custom plans for customers contacting the company.
None of Volt EP's plans include an early termination fee
Volt EP's current 12-month fixed plan at Oncor includes an average all-in rate (at 1,000 kWh) of 8.3¢/kWh, reflecting an energy charge of 4.3¢/kWh and TDU charges of $5.25 per month and 3.480¢/kWh. A base charge of $4.95 applies if usage is under 500 kWh.
Volt EP's current 12-month fixed Night & Day plan at Oncor includes an average all-in rate (at 1,000 kWh) of 8.4¢/kWh, and includes a time-varying energy charge, plus TDU charges of $5.25 per month and 3.480¢/kWh. The energy charge is 5.50¢/kWh from 9:00 a.m. to 8:59 p.m. on all days, and 3.00¢/kWh for all other hours on all days. A base charge of $4.95 applies if usage is under 500 kWh.
