Reporting by Karen Abbott • kabbott@energychoicematters.com

For the second time in three months, Pennsylvania again saw its highest increase in statewide residential electric shopping since the polar vortex, though PPL continues to see a decline in residential shoppers

From late December 2015 to late January 2016 (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw a net increase of 8,700 accounts in the number of residential customers who were on competitive supply statewide

That's believed to be the highest increase since January 2014, eclipsing the previously seen highest post-vortex monthly growth of 8,400 accounts seen during November 2015. Aggregate residential migration growth had been 7,250 accounts during December 2015

PPL, however, continues to see an increase in the number of residential customers leaving competitive supply.

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late December 2015 to late January 2016 was:

Duquesne Light 428
Met-Ed 1,721
PECO 2,937
Penelec 3,214
Penn Power 912
PPL (1,422)
West Penn Power 966

For comparison, the change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late November 2015 to late December 2015 had been:

Duquesne Light (812)
Met-Ed 1,371
PECO 1,569
Penelec 2,213
Penn Power 1,507
PPL (802)
West Penn Power 2,218
