Reporting by Paul Ring • ring@energychoicematters.com

ERCOT issued a final determination of RMR status for NRG Energy's Petra Nova Power I LLC, PNPI_GT2 unit, which had previously submitted Notification of Suspension of Operations (NSO)

ERCOT has completed its review and determined that this Resource is not required to support ERCOT transmission system reliability (i.e. voltage support, stability or management of localized transmission constraints under first contingency criteria). The Resource may be mothballed according to the schedule in the NSO.

The proposed effective date for the suspension of PNPI-GT2 is May 19, 2016. The NSO indicates that this generation resource will be mothballed from the ERCOT system as of May 19, 2016 for a period not less than three months and not more than six months.

NRG had previously said in a FERC filing that the 75-MW Petra Nova Power I LLC plant was constructed to produce the steam and electricity needed to operate a post-combustion carbon dioxide capture, utilization and sequestration project NRG is developing at its 3,665 MW W.A. Parish Plant. NRG will convert the PNPI_GT2 unit to a cogen unit during the mothball period
