Reporting by Paul Ring • ring@energychoicematters.com

If responsibility of the Smart Meter Texas portal is transferred to ERCOT, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, "must establish a reasonable path to ERCOT Market Participant status for all interested Third Parties, where such Market Participant status confers the same voting rights and opportunities for redress as any other Market Participant enjoys currently," Mission:data Coalition, Inc. said in comments to the PUCT

"Such status shall involve eligibility criteria for Third Parties that are appropriate for the role that Third Parties play in Texas's overall electricity system," the Mission:data Coalition said

"For example, there should be no bonding requirements, since, unlike generators, non-performance by Third Parties will not result in blackouts," the Mission:data Coalition said

The Mission:data Coalition also sought to "streamline" the customer authorization process for the sharing of customer data via SMT. The Mission:data Coalition claimed the current customer authorization process is "clunky" noting that, "[O]ne reason for the friction in the authorization process is the desire for customers to be fully informed of the implications of their actions," SMT said.
