Texas PUC Abates Sharyland Advanced Metering Deployment Case
The Public Utility Commission of Texas yesterday abated a case considering Sharyland Utilities' proposed advanced metering deployment plan.
The Commission abated the proceeding pending resolution of Sharyland's newly filed rate case.
Additionally, Chairman Donna Nelson said that an AMS pilot program would be appropriate, and Commissioner Brandy Marty Marquez also believed that a pilot would be useful, but the Commission did not formally address the issue of a pilot at this time.
Commissioner Kenneth Anderson would have adopted a proposal for decision allowing deployment to commence, citing the benefits of AMS, including outage management, particularly in Sharyland's rural service area, and the innovative, money-saving products from REPs that are dependent on smart meters.
